TRASH ‘n’ CASH
14th November – 29th, 2014 November
TRASH ‘n’ CASH is an acute social commentary; an exhibition in which currency, big brands, conscience and identity collide. The homogenisation of society is in stark contrast with the prominence of individual brands and the growing identification with certain celebrities. The ‘selfie’ as a celebration of the ‘self’ is becoming increasingly less unique as conformity pays and designer logos form the new global currency. The juxtaposition of aspiration items, the Tiffany’s bag and fifty-pound notes with rubbish and waste boldly attack this issue.
The Dotmaster’s ‘Funny Money’ series creates Warhol-inspired artworks on legal tender, mocking the way in which we now measure worth. With the feel of an art installation – artworks bleeding from their frames onto the walls, ‘TRASH ‘n’ CASH’ is a unique experience and opportunity to view street artwork in a gallery space.
