Banksy is a legendary British street artist, who is known for his politically charged work, as well for keeping his identity secret up to this day.
Appearing out of nowhere on the walls of the streets in many cities around the world, Banksy’s simple graffiti drawings always come at the right moment as a social commentary on the current affairs. Sometimes sentimental, and more often sharp-edged and provocative, Banksy’s art makes you question the everyday life and the society’s attitudes to the problems that we all encounter in the news. Although his identity remains unknown, his voice is clearly heard through the paint on the streets, every artwork speaking directly to each and every one of us. Over time his art gained so much recognition that some art dealers started taking out whole walls from buildings just in order to put his artwork for sale, an act which Banksy himself was notoriously against of.
“The greatest crimes in the world are not committed by people breaking the rules but by people following the rules. It’s people who follow orders that drop bombs and massacre villages.” – Banksy (Wall and Peace)
