After Imitate Modern’s New York Soho House success with Mr.Shields, we are thrilled to bring a collection of his works for his European collectors and fans to see. You can’t get any closer than this…
We want to show what Tyler Shields has to give. There’s a lot more in Tyler’s Provocateur repertoire than meets the naked eye. Lyric, sexy, dreamy, dangerous is what you can expect to see on display. It’s a homage to Tyler.
Tyler Shields. “Considered the Andy Warhol of his generation, Shields has produced images that play with notions of the gaze, power structures, hyper-realism, iconoclastic-tendencies and cinematographic practice…”
Tyler Shields, born in Jacksonville, Florida and now a recognised “Hollywood’s favourite photographer”, Shield’s technical brilliance has much more to do with the shift in focus from the fragility of the “celebrity photography” to the output of the contemporary art as a medium. People will go to him to make art rather than celebrity photography. Over the years, his style has shifted and taken many forms, approaches and styles – yet the core nature to capture the long-standing and perhaps transcendental clarity behind controlled subconscious image-making, remains. As an artist, Shields’ work nods towards the image-making of Caravaggio’s near photographic paintings in the 16th century, where rules and guidelines of the century were abandoned and / or re-incorporated to challenge the sensibilities of the time. Provocateur, and in particular his well-known Mouthful series, play with the notions of gaze, cinematographic practice and iconoclastic tendencies. What Tyler Shields ‘Unseen’ aims to bring two sides of the same coin together – a blend of the unmissable and the unseen.
