Imitate Modern selected to appear in the historic Home House exhibition program

Imitate Modern is excited to announce our partnership with Home House (chosen by ‘A Space For Art’), an exclusive and unique private member’s club located in the heart of central London.  Home House spans across three elegant Georgian town houses at 19, 20 and 21 Portman Square with decedent interiors and an identity that “fuses 18th century splendour with 21st century style.”

Originally separate properties, N° 20 was commissioned for Elizabeth, The Countess of Home (aka the “Queen of Hell” for her penchant for throwing hedonistic parties and her irascible behavior) and N° 21 (originally N° 18) bought by William Lock. Home House is considered to be the best surviving example of Robert Adam’s Neo-classical interiors.

Home House has had an illustrious past into an illustrious future. The No° 19 and N° 20 buildings was the home of Courtauld Institute of Art for 60 years and was the stomping grounds of Anthony Blunt, famed art historian, Courtauld Director and Soviet spy. N°21 has been home to the Dutch Legion, Senegalese Embassy and Royal Institute of British Architecture’s drawings archive.

Since it’s opening as a private and exclusive member’s club 1998, Home House has maintained a reputation as the luxurious, exclusive “rule breakers” of the London member’s club scene. Mixing grandeur with glamour, Home House offers an unparalleled experience.

If the decadent artistic  interiors weren’t enough, the different trends of art are clear inside the different rooms of Home House; The House bar is a sculptural design by Zaha Hadid and many art events populate the Home House social calendar.

Part of this includes the  hosting of an on-going exhibition series, of the most interesting and contemporary galleries in London.

This year, Imitate Modern was chosen by ‘A Space For Art‘ for Home House to participate in their six month exhibition program featuring our artist, American photographer Tyler Shields. Selected pieces from his series Provocateur and Mouthful will be on view in the extraordinary House Lounge. Imitate Modern provocative and edgy ethos matches perfectly the reputation and practices of Home House. These ten works will be on show through January 2019.

Tyler Shields is an American contemporary artist, filmmaker and photographer, once dubbed as “Hollywood’s favourite photographer,” and named one of the “100 Best Things In The World” by GQ. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and currently based in LA, Shields is best known for his provocative photography that relates to the themes of consumerism, violence, and fantasy. In one of his most iconic series he had set a $100,000 crocodile-skin Hermes Birkin bag on fire.
