Last week we headed down to the Grand Palais, Paris to catch this year’s Paris Photo fair. As always, there was an eclectic collection of photography from around the globe on display, from old masters to exciting emerging talent. Be it stark black and white photographs to vibrant full colour frames, here at Imitate Modern we are big fans of the photographic medium. Here are our top three picks from this years fair:
1.) Annie Leibowitz Sumo Book
We were very excited to be able to see the new Annie Leibowitz sumo book that has been released by Taschen. The quality of the book was almost as beautiful as the photographs themselves! We are Imitate Modern are currently working on something very exciting with Taschen, so stay tuned!
2.) Olivia Barbieri
Be it the stark visual contrasts, the immense scale, or just the fact we LOVE snow, Barbieri’s ‘Geographies and People #12’ was a true favourite of ours. Barbieri’s play of point of view and natural ability to capture the natural world in its most graphic form is something that breathed a breath of fresh air into the Grand Palais.
3.) Larry Clark
The king of cool and the original provocateur, Larry Clark’s work can almost always be found at the photo fair. Clark’s honest, raw and eye opening images of American youth subculture inspired many of the photographers also on exhibit at the fair for their compelling visuals and gritty narrative.
