Fenton Bailey is fast establishing his own unique signature style and does not attribute his artistic inspiration to any particular source – although he is an admirer of the work of Irving Penn as well as iconic photographer David Bailey and artist Francis Bacon. His desire to take images with an intensely personal undercurrent is at the epicenter of his work.
Fenton says: “I was using a website called Polanoid (polanoid.net), akin to Instagram but you can only upload instant film, of any kind. This in itself is an expensive exercise but despite this, lots of the photographers uploading onto it were themselves amateurs but still willing to spend just to upload for the site. Some of the pictures on there were so breathtaking, it made me realise that anyone with the freedom to do what they love, could be an artist and this made me want to get involved.”
