Over the coming months we will be presenting our ‘Artists in Focus’ series, taking a closer look at each of our artists, their achievements, exhibitions and most popular artworks, as well as some new releases! For our next instalment, Maximilian Wiedemann

Maximilian Wiedemann is an internationally recognised artist who has exhibited in Germany, UK and the USA. He is best known for the acute social commentary within his work and high end collaborations within the fashion and art industries.

Wiedemann’s artworks cover a wide variety of media including spray paint, neon lights and sculpture, often combining brands and images representative of contemporary luxury and glamour with bold and witty statements like Money Talks But has Nothing to Say, Closer To God in Heels, and The Only Pain is Champagne.

His work has captured the attention of many notable individuals and he collaborated with some of world’s best know luxury brands from BMW, Vogue, and VH1, and features in the collections of today’s celebrities and socialites including Karl Lagerfeld, Lindsay Lohan, Bono, Kelly Osbourne, Tamara Ecclestone.

American excess, society’s obsession with celebrity and the brash side of popular culture are all central themes in his work. His talent lies in giving audiences his own original perspective on current issues and individuals and creating works which contain more truth than the original image, along with his own brand of wry humour and subversion.”

Max Wiedemann first appeared in the spotlight after Karl Lagerfeld noticed his work and purchased a piece. This was followed by an introduction to the Editor of French Vogue, a meeting which later brought him an important commission by VH1 for a series of paintings of Leona Lewis, Miley Cyrus and Adele.

This was only the beginning and many important commissions were to come including work with BMW and most lately with Jet Edge during Miami Basel.

Max Wiedemann cites many influences on his work: from his ten year career in advertising, where he learnt that art is a powerful medium in communicating what is relevant in our society; to artists Basquiat and Warhol, whom he is often compared for his sreenprinting techniques and mass reproduction. He sees himself as follower of  Andy Warhol and believes if Warhol was to be living today he would be painting bottles and Rolexes as well.


 “I’m not about landscapes or pretty colours. I am trying to make a statement. My painting is raw but that’s the passion behind it. I capture the moment. My talent will only lay in communicating my art and if people get it, appreciate it and buy it then I have succeeded in my mission as an artist.”
